Perhaps the least interesting aspect of the new TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 replica watch is the most obvious: yes, the watch is 2mm larger in diameter than the standard (41mm) Carrera 1887 that we’ve come to know and love, but the new “plus-size” model is far more than just a larger version of what’s come before.
TAG Heuer has taken the opportunity to create a distinctly new member of the Carrera family that combines the larger case with an open, elegant design that brings together elements of the 41mm Carrera 1887 (Version 2) and the Carrera Heritage series.
Powered by the in-house Calibre 1887 movement and inspired by the Calibre 16 design, this is a classic reborn. Ultraresistant ceramic on the bezel and unscratchable sapphire on the caseback protect a 43mm case of fine-brushed and polished steel. The pulse-quickening dial comes in understated black or elegant anthracite with a sunray effect, and a new H-shaped bracelet adds a special touch of style. An even more sporty option is offered by a version with its sandblasted titanium Grade 2 case, coated in black titanium carbide, and the black alligator strap with a “soft touch” effect with elegant stitching and lining in vibrant racing red.
The first thing you'll notice about the Carrera Calibre 1887 Jack Heuer is the design of the case. If you aren't familiar with the concept, it looks quite strange. It is a "bullhead" style case with an angled dial. Bullhead layouts place the crown and chronograph pushers at the top of the case, while angled watches elevate the dial and orient them to your face a bit to make legibility a bit easier without having to twist your wrist.
Balance frequency: 28.800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Power reserve: about 50 hours, about 40 hours when the chronograph is engaging.
Hours — minutes — small seconds at 9. Chronograph minutes at 12 and chronograph hours at 6. Date at 6.
Oscillating mass: 'Côtes de Genève' engraved 'TAG Heuer — Calibre 1887 Swiss Made'.
